In This Episode You’ll Learn:

  1. Why toxic masculinity is harmful
  2. The importance of embracing your emotions
  3. Why we should not be afraid of making mistakes

Building Genuine Relationships

Rand has dedicated his life to helping people become better marketers. With SparkToro, an audience intelligence tool, Rand makes it easier for marketers to create relationships with influencers and media outlets, without Facebook or Google arranging the connection.

Over the last few years he has become a heavy critic of Facebook and Google’s monopoly over online advertising and the marketing world. Rand believes that these popular advertising platforms are abusing their authority and spreading misinformation, causing a significant negative impact on marketers and entrepreneurs.

Honesty Is The Best Policy

Being emotionally honest can solve your problems. Rand says an opportunity to face an issue that causes you discomfort is also an opportunity to:

  • Become your best self
  • Have better relationships
  • Become a more thoughtful person
  • Connect on a deeper level

”I have always found that when you don’t have those hard conversations, you beat yourself up for it and it creates distance between you and the other person.”

This insight rings true in the workplace as well as in private life. People feel closer with someone they are familiar with, so sharing your thoughts gives you the chance to create bonds with your colleagues. Rand says when you don’t engage in the uncomfortable conversations at work, you run the risk of leaving things unresolved that could be fixed easily.

“Address the problem and your feelings head on.”

Company Versus Individual

Rand believes that your business should be aligned with your ethics, beliefs and morals — and should be deeply connected to what you want to contribute to the world.

“The [more] layers of abstraction that you build between what you, the person, want in the world and the company . . . the more negative externalities you will experience.”

Embrace mistakes and have the confidence to try out new things. The best marketers test new ideas, figure out what works best for their brand and move forward.  Don’t take mistakes personally or let them hold you back.

Take Risks

“You have to do pretty exceptional and unique things either on the content side or on the marketing side if you want to stand out from the crowd.”

In order to achieve the success you’re after, take a leap and be distinctive. Face the fear of uncertainty. Become the resilient and courageous creator you want to be.
