Underdog Success:
Rebecca Gill’s 15 years of experience in SEO began as the underdog at a small ERP software company. She likened their SEO success against Microsoft to the likes of “David and Goliath.”
She says there’s nothing quite like throwing yourself into the fire to learn quickly. The early days of SEO were full of trial and error, so when she began to see winning results, it was very satisfying.
She remembers the day her boss said:
“We grew revenue 400% in 2 years from the web and organic SEO leads.”
That was when the success really hit home.
How Does SEO Create Revenue?
Rebecca defines SEO as the directions that help the search engines find the easiest route to specific content to help the searchers problem.
By helping Google create a positive user experience, SEO creates real revenue. She uses the example of her mentee, Sandy. Sandy closed her brick and mortar store, opened the store up online, and was able to make the same amount of revenue and by a new car. Rebecca credits this success to SEO’s specific targeting ability.
Planning & Strategy are Critical
In order to see the long lasting results from SEO, it takes hard work. For podcast SEO, Rebecca says it is important to figure out who you are and who you want to help. You can’t jump to execution without serious planning and strategy.
“Something that even the biggest companies forget, is mapping that list of preferred keywords to specific content so that you know where that key word resides and so do the search engines.”
Another trick in the playbook is researching what your target audience searches for, but doesn’t find the answers for. Then, fill that gap and provide that content for them.
Rebecca says the best SEO is human SEO. Focusing on the human rather than the numbers is critical, because people will always be searching for solutions to their problems.
“True SEO is really about connecting with the human visitor and doing good and providing solutions”
Podcast SEO holds exponential value when used with effectively, because it allows you to reach a new audience, garner more exposure on the web and gain credibility.
